Meet Faizah
Faizah Malik is one of LA’s leading public interest lawyers and housing advocates. For over 15 years, she’s fought to keep thousands of Angelenos in their homes, created new affordable housing, and championed policies that bring stability and opportunity to working families.
Faizah’s roots in LA and the Westside run deep. The eldest daughter of South Asian Muslim immigrants, her family came to LA over 50 years ago, building small businesses and community institutions that shaped their neighborhood. Faizah attended public schools, graduated from Brown University and the University of Michigan Law School, and has spent her career fighting for everyday people—both inside and outside of government. She’s worked for the New York City Council and now serves as Managing Attorney for Housing Justice at Public Counsel, one of the largest nonprofit legal organizations in LA.
She’s taken on the powerful and won: defending eviction protections against landlord lobby attacks, suing the state to stop the denial of rent relief, leading the campaign for the strongest tenant protections in 40 years, and helping return Bruce’s Beach to its rightful owners in a historic victory for racial justice.
Now, Faizah is running for City Council to deliver real affordability, fight displacement, and make City Hall work for all of us—not just the wealthy.
Faizah is a renter and mom raising fourth-generation Angelenos in Venice, where you can find her cheering on her kids at North Venice Little League.
